DEFINE bounce – Atlanta Trampoline Workout (Jump on it!)

Working out on land is so 2015. Why burn your calories on the ground when you can burn them in the SKY? Okay, we exaggerate a wee bit – but jumping on a trampoline is our new fitness jam and we won’t apologize for it. Introducing the Atlanta trampoline workout! To keep it real, I was pretty nervous about this concept. As a card carrying member of the torn ACL, MCL, Meniscus club I don’t get overly jazzed about jumping up and down on unstable surfaces – EVER. But, turns out our tramp-o-leeny tool actually puts less stress on your… Read More

5 Things to STOP Obsessing About

This might be a series. I may try and stop obsessing about 5 things every month. Or this may not be a series. Either way, I’m not going to obsess about it. Behold – 5 things to STOP obsessing about: 1. Is everyone hanging out with me? Maybe they are. Maybe they aren’t. In the unlikely event that they are, it could have been a HARMLESS error. it happens. Or maybe they are mean girls, and in that case, screw em. Seriously. I feel bad for them – because deep down they must not like themselves very much. 2. Do… Read More

Atlanta fitness guru Megan Armstrong of SculptHouse is the kind of girl you want to hang out with on the weekends…when she’s not kicking your butt. Megan is the Creative Director & Lead Trainer for the new fitness studio bombshell that hit Atlanta earlier this year, and is an instrumental mind (and body) behind the development of the SH method (keep reading for more info on this.) Blue and White Master Bedroom

I’m having a major blue and white moment. In the past six months I have been SO drawn to this color combination that I haven’t bought a single item for my home that doesn’t reflect my obsession (minus a dining room table – and that’s only because my husband said a white table was impractical. To appease me we brought a white dining room rug – which is even more impractical.) For this reason, it’s not shocking to learn that we are now the happy owners of a blue and white master bedroom. In our old home, our master was… Read More

How to Find a Signature Scent for Your Home

I’ve liked the idea of having a signature scent for my home since the first time I signed on the dotted mortgage line. I’m always drawn to homes that have  a signature scent – they all seem luxurious and thoughtfully designed. Scent triggers both emotion and memory more than sight and sound, because it is the only sense directly connected to the amygdala and hippocampus, so any home that doesn’t have a signature and consistent smell misses out on an element of decor as impactful as a statement piece of art or furniture. These are our tops to find a signature scent… Read More

Closet Purging Tips: What Questions to ask Yourself

Does It Coordinate With Other Items in Your Closet? That awesome green skirt that looks good with this one amazing top in your closet…but nothing else…might not be a keeper. Having versatile pieces in your closet makes your life 10 times easier in the morning on the way to work, on the weekends when you only have 7 minutes to make it to brunch or when you’re late for date night. The exception here is formal wear or special occasion outfits. Those get a hall pass – but just barely. How Would You Feel If You Were Wearing It… Read More

The Best Lemon Snaps Cookie Recipe

My summer of lemon obsession continues with the very, very best lemon snaps cookie recipe EVER! Lemon snaps, summer’s answer to my cold weather ginger snaps, are crispy on the outside and a teeny tiny bit chewy in the middle with a tart flavor that make your mouth pucker just a tiny bit. Ahhhhh. Since they are made of fruit, and fruit is healthy, I always have two or three cookies with breakfast. After all, if breakfast is the most important meal of the day it should definitely include cookies, right? RIGHT! Ergo, I make a HUGE batch at a time,… Read More

The Benefits of Solar Shades

Our new house is really starting to come together! We finally pulled the trigger on a couple really important design elements like rugs and window treatment. These “finishing touch” items may not seem like a huge deal, but when you are eating pizza off of cardboard boxes for a couple weeks these are the things that take a house from “under construction” to “a little less under construction.” The window treatments were a HUGE project for us. We wanted something clean, minimal and stylish – and we also had a major problem. Starting at 2PM being in our house is… Read More

Bocephus rescued us (not a typo) when he was just a pup – although already 85 lbs – and has been making our lives infinitely better, and full of dog hair, ever since. Vanilla Protein Powder Shortbread Cookies

In Atlanta, the Peachtree Road Race is an amazing July 4th weekend tradition. This year, I’m giving back to the runners who tirelessly entertain me by passing out vanilla protein powder shortbread cookies! How fun, right? The Southern Gentleman

I never like to commit to a “favorite” restaurant. I am more of a “this is my favorite Italian place” or “this is my favorite place for oysters” or “this is my favorite meal on a budget place.” I am incredibly indecisive when it comes to food, so I have lots of favorites. However, whenever someone asks me for a restaurant recommendation with no strings attached, one place always pops right into my head: The Southern Gentleman. I have been to The Southern Gentleman a handful of times and it’s always on point. The food is inventive, yet not so out… Read More

Outsourcing Healthy Eating

For years, I’ve struggled with the process of healthy eating at home. I’ve hated the time it took to make anything more elaborate than a salad. Houndstooth is a traditional woven pattern that designers have been gravitating towards for years – and its having a huge moment this Fall and Winter. A Houndstooth blanket scarf can be worn in a variety of ways that don’t have you drowning in fabric – which really only looks cool on Instagram. Fall Denim Trends: Coated Black Jeans

Looking a get a leg up on fall fashion? Start with your jeans! If you’re like us you’ve been jumping for joy about the roomier fits, standout distressed details, flared bottoms and flattering high-waists. But the fall denim trend we are most excited about is…drum roll please…coated black denim. Kelly has been a fan of black denim for years – but it took me until this year to get onboard the bus – thanks to the addition of a flattering and edgy coating.   Coated denim is he perfect hybrid of leather pants and classic jeans, and really elevates whatever… Read More

Thursday Waylay – Atlanta’s Fall Events

There are two great restaurant weeks to mark on you calendar this month!  Highland Restaurant Week: Saturday, October 17, through Sunday, October 25 and Avalon Restaurant Week: Saturday, October 24, through Sunday, November 1 One of my favorite neighborhood taverns, HOBNOB, recently launched their new fall menu and it’s UNREAL. Think pork belly and arugula pizza, fried green tomato BLT, tomato and burrata salad, mother load nachos and a chicken pot pie that my husband says is the best in Atlanta. Bellying up to the corner tavern for greasy wings and domestic beer is no longer your only option for catching Monday Night… Read More

September Pregnancy Update

Sorry for the delay on the September update! After we got back from our amazing babymoon in late August (post and pics to come one of these days!), it seemed like September just flew right on by preparing for Baby O. Still can’t believe she will be here very soon! September Pregnancy Update Baby’s size: The size of a squash (just in time for fall!). I’m feeling: Tired! The third trimester really hit me like a ton of bricks. Between the crazy swelling in my hands and feet, heartburn, and trouble sleeping, I’ve had plenty of reminders that it’s time to slow down.… Read More

Atlanta’s Newest Mexican Hot Spot

I’ve thought very seriously about changing the description of our Instagram account to “two girls, two dogs and a sh*t ton of queso.” In this world of transparency and authenticity, I think that’s the most honest description of our lives. Kelly is currently on a queso hiatus until baby O meets the world, so we agreed it would be the responsible decision for me to double my queso intake to compensate. Challenge accepted. Enter: Guaco Joe’s – one of the latest concepts from Metrotainment Cafes. You may be thinking, girl…that place has been there for ages and is called La… Read More

Think Pink in Atlanta – The Spa at Mandarin Oriental

I’ve mentioned my love for the The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental before. It’s one of my very, very favorite ways to wind down in the city and whenever we have guests in town I always recommend a visit. But this month my favorite spa is outdoing themselves – by supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the American Cancer Society. The Mandarin is singing the song of my people here, because from pink cocktails to my fav spa treatments, they are helping us ‘think pink’ and support the cause – and you know I wasn’t going to miss it! Healthy Pumpkin Smoothie

Fall is here and that means boots, spiked apple cider and pumpkin pie. However, since eating pie every day makes my husband judgmental isn’t healthy, this pumpkin smoothie is a nice alternative until more appropriate pie time.  This delicious recipe makes two servings, one for today and one for tomorrow! It’s packed with vitamin A, potassium and fiber – making it eat like health food but taste like a milkshake. Yep, you’re welcome! 3 Tips for Dressing the Bump

Back in my second trimester (before I really needed maternity clothes), Meg and I had a shopping spree at the newest Michael Stars store in Ponce City Market. As a brand new momma-to-be, learning to adapt my wardrobe to my changing body has been a challenge. But, I’ve adopted a few tricks along the way, so thought I’d share a few of my style tips for the rest of my preggo reader friends! Size up. Instead of giving in to maternity clothes right away, I bought a couple shift dresses one size up for added comfort around the arm holes/bust… Read More

Shake Shack Loves Atlanta

Kelly and I love Shake Shack. I mean…really, really love Shake Shack. I dream in frozen custard. The fact that it’s right down the street from my house is awesome – minus the expanding waistline effect. But does Shake Shack love us back? Now that they’ve almost been in Atlanta for a year (their anniversary is at the end of September) where do we stand? Is it true love? Oh, heck yes. “We love Atlanta. Shake Shack loves Atlanta. We’ve gotten a great response from the Atlanta market. We’re excited about being part of the Buckhead Atlanta scene,” Josh Kalson,… Read More

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Bella Gravida. It seems like my body changes overnight and every morning is an adventure in the closet trying to find something to cover up the bump. Sneaking Around

The second the little lines on the pregnancy test formed the +, my drinking days were over. It was a good run, but I’m pretty sure my cocktailing habits are a thing of the past (at least until this baby comes!). While it hasn’t bothered ME too much that I can’t have a drink with dinner or split a bottle of wine with a friend, all of a sudden having to explain to people why I wasn’t drinking was a little tricky. ATV Adventures – Moab, Utah

The Moab, Utah adventure vacation continues – but this time on four wheels! I had never been on an ATV before, so I figured why not drop myself in a very desolate desert with no one around and ride through really large obstacles like sand dunes, snakes and aggressive boulders. You know, to ease into it. We saw the most beautiful sights – and I only made the mistake of snacking on a mouthful of sand a couple times. WIN! White Jeans After Labor Day

Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, and bloggers everywhere society eventually adopted it as the natural endpoint for summer fashion. Like many of God’s greatest gifts, including American Cheese and Umbro soccer shorts, white jeans after Labor Day should only be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home…not visible to the public. However, I realize I’m in the minority here. Suddenly it’s cool to break this long standing fashion rule. Canyoneering in Moab, Utah

Stripes and I try to take a big vacation every year – and this year we wanted to do something different. Super different. So we decided to head to the Moab Desert in Utah for some crazy adventures. First on our list – the La Sal Mountains for Canyoneering. I mean, why not? For those who aren’t familiar with canyoneering, it’s pretty simple: we used ropes to descend into really narrow canyons full of rushing waterfalls and deep, dark pits. When it comes to taking off my wedding rings, I fall in the camp of “never taking them off.” I shower with them, lotion my hands with them and even wear them at the beach (I know some of you may be gasping at this!). Here’s my reasoning though – I had a lost ring scare right after we got engaged, and decided right then and there that it would be safer to just leave them on. For starters, Zinburger is located just outside of Lenox Square Mall on the Peachtree-facing side sandwiched in between True Food Kitchen and Sprinkles. Now, I wouldn’t consider this a “mall-restaurant” (which sometimes get a bad rap) because while it’s attached to the mall, you can only enter from the main door on the outside of… Read More

Effortless Stripes for Summer

There is NOTHING better than stripes in the summer. Well, except for stripes in the fall and winter – because those are awesome too. I’m a lot lazier in the summer about what I wear than I am in the winter. Perhaps that’s why my cocktail posts are more popular than my outfit posts? I digress… In the summer it’s completely possible (and likely) that I’m only wearing one item – a dress. No cardigan or blazer, no tights – just one item from my closet. Grab and go. Solids are great, and always look appropriate, but stripes make you… Read More

The Best Running Shorts for Summer

Running in the summer (in Atlanta) is a billion times harder than it is any other season of the year. When the sun is beating down on you and the pavement is smoking under your feet motivation is super hard to come by. And that’s why I buy super cute clothes to encourage myself 🙂 Lululemon makes some of the best running shorts for summer – you’ve GOT to give them a try! Not only are they super cute (so many fun prints to choose from) but they are also super functional. My favorite line is the Speed Short *4-way… Read More

Simple Summer Dress & Elan Westside

With the 90+ degree days we’ve been having, and my growing baby bump, I have been filling my closet with simple summer dresses. Lots of neutral colors, simple styles, and light fabrics are my go-tos when trying to beat the Atlanta heat. I pretty much gave up wearing on pants in April, so it’s all about the dress and shirt/skirt combos to let my bottom half breathe! I picked up this white and blue dress at Old Navy a few weeks ago during one of their crazy summer sales, and have already worn it a bunch. The fabric is super… Read More

#CirocSummer at Sweet Auburn Seafood

I recently had the pleasure of attending a “Chic Ciroc Brunch” at Sweet Auburn Seafood hosted by the lovely Erica Key and Ashley the Brand. Let me tell you – these ladies know how to brunch! We were seated in a private room at the restaurant with red leather booths lining the walls – a perfect open set-up for catching up with blogger friends new and old. The menu consisted of a selection of meat and seafood dishes that were perfectly portioned and all incorporated a little Ciroc vodka into the dish. Plus each course was served with a #CirocSummer… Read More

Drunk brunch is the most sincere way God lets us know that the world was created with love. – Abraham Lincoln For the Bookworm: Instead of “bottomless mimosas” or the typical brunch beverages, Ration & Dram is doing “Brunch Punch Cards.” The owners found a ton of these vintage library cards, and in the best example of repurposing we’ve ever come across, ever, they’ve printed a build-your-own brunch punch menu on them. Dressing for Atlanta Summer Days

I’ve got a bone to pick with the Atlantic coast. I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with the relentless heat and humidity pimping into Atlanta from the Gulf. It’s been a LONG TIME since the afternoon temps have dipped below 90, and even the evenings are practically unbearable with the dense humidity – dressing for Atlanta summer days is NOT easy! But life goes on, and staying inside for days on end is not socially acceptable – so we have to arm ourselves with the tools to fight these scorching rays! Those tools include airy lace skirts and pretty silk blouses… Read More

Focusing on What Matters – Just Say No

I ran across this quote from Steve Jobs (I know, I know – how original) on the Well blog and it really struck me. In moments when I think I’m the MOST focused on the blog I tend to be the least. Back before Baby O’Neill was in the picture, Kelly and I would post up at our favorite margarita bar and come up with HUGE, WONDERFUL plans for the blog. “…and then we will make sure we have at least two outfit posts a week, and try the capsule wardrobe thing, while at the same time trying the monochromatic… Read More

Will Stretching Help me Lose Weight?

When I was younger I never stretched. EVER. I hated it and thought it was totally pointless. Now that I’m older wiser I realize how wrong I was. It’s sad and horrible fact that as the body ages, our muscles can become tighter and range of motion in our joints is minimized. Stretching is critical and a seriously important part of my road to fitness. But you’re here to talk weight loss… Here’s the deal (trust me, I’m a blogger – which is the same thing as having a medical degree these days) stretching isn’t aerobic – so technically no,… Read More

No more picking up a pair of sneaks on the clearance rack of TJ Maxx (well, maybe if they’re only for show!). My custom insoles from Road Runner Sports have completely changed my running game! I used to not be able to run for more than 15-20 minutes at a time outside or on the treadmill, because my ankles would start to throb – like really throb to the point where I had to slow it down to a walking pace (likely due… Read More

What to Wear to Spring Festivals in Atlanta

It’s spring!!! YAY!!! But it’s cold….boo!! Never fear, it’s still festival season (finally) so there is really no reason to not be ecstatic at all times. One of the best festivals in Atlanta to kick off the season is Baconfest – an awesome pork party full of beer, costumes, games and more bacon than you could ever imagine. There is NO WAY we would ever miss this festival – so even though the temps dropped a bit, the sun was shining and GAME ON. This post is going to give you two outfits for the price of one post, you… Read More

Shoppin’ & Strollin’ into Spring at Emory Point

It feels like we ALL have spring on the brain these days. And the mixed messages Mother Nature is sending us with the up and down temps in Atlanta is making it hard to make the closet swap from sweaters and coats for sandals and sundresses. However, on a particularly spring-y day in March, we gathered with our blogger friends for an evening of spring shopping at Emory Point. Throughout our stroll, we were introduced to a few new shops along the way – Lizard Thicket and American Threads – while also stopping into some tried and true favorites –… Read More

Get Ready to be Blownaway, Atlanta

It’s no secret we love pampering ourselves with a blowout or mani/pedi every now and again. A girl’s gotta treat herself, right?! As much as we love going to the salon, sometimes we’d rather stay put in our PJs with a glass of champs and let the beauty magicians come to us. We aren’t exactly living the lifestyle of the Buckhead rich and famous (one day…), so house visits for beauty treatments might sound out-of-the-question. But, not anymore – let’s all give a big round of applause for Blownaway – Atlanta’s new on-demand beauty service. Picture this: You get home… Read More

Top 5 Atlanta Class Pass Studios

We are absolutely LOVING #classpass. Who’s with us? We’ve done our best to pound the pavement and visit as many boutique studios as possible, but so far these are our five favorites: Stellar Bodies: Stellar Bodies is a combo of weight training and Pilates – which is perfect for us since we get bored with weights – but know that we NEED them! It’s great – you get the strengthening and toning benefits of weight training, and the lengthening and postural enhancing benefits of Pilates in a circuit training sequence. Stellar Bodies keeps the heart rate up and burns extra calories. Atlanta Loves Brunch – Here’s The Game Plan

One of the very best things about Atlanta is there are a million AMAZING places to eat. I mean, approximately 22% of this blog is devoted to those places. I have no complaints…except I do. Brunch in Atlanta is a competitive sport fueled by long lines, elusive patio seat options and lots and lots of church traffic. This sport, brunch, isn’t for the faint of heart – it’s the for the eggs and bacon with a side of hamburger warriors who wake up, roll out of bed, throw on legging or a maxi and fight the good fight. It’s critical that… Read More

Simplifying Workday Outfits

For the first time in a VERY long time I’ve been picking out my outfits for work the night before. For me, this is a necessary evil since I’ve been going to the gym in the morning – and so far it has been a little difficult. That is, until I streamlined my work outfit options by limiting the colors combos I use. My staples? Black, white, tan, cream and pops of color. It’s a foolproof method that makes planning really easy! Black pants and a cream shirt? Classic! Cream pants and tan shirt? Beautiful tone on tone, black pants… Read More

Gym and Tonic – Can we Still be Friends?

Guys, we love this blogging thing. It’s SO darn fun. We’ve had the opportunity to meet the coolest people and do the raddest things because of the doors it has opened. We want to do it all, and doing it all sometimes involves very creative combinations of events in a single night that truly help us live up to our tagline: a Barre to Bar blog. For example, we went to an amazing, swanky chocolate tasting at the Four Seasons followed by a barre class at FORME. We’ve also gone from a St. Patrick’s Day party to hot yoga (we… Read More

Road to Fitness – How to Find the Right Socks and Sports Bra

Asking us to pick our favorite workout is like asking us to pick our favorite cocktail. It simply can’t be done! Some days we can’t wait to hit the bar barre, while other days our cyc bikes are calling us home. In order to be ready for whatever workout we have scheduled we have to have the right gear. Which is fun because…shopping. (How awesome are these colors? Love Nike’s new spring line!) On a recent gloomy weekend afternoon (we’ve been having a lot of those lately), I decided to put my Atlanta Botanical Garden membership to good use (I’ve only had it for 6 months and never used it!) with a visit to the Gardens! The most beautiful indoor display of orchids was just the thing to brighten up a cold, rainy day. The Orchid Daze: Pop! Dining in Downtown Atlanta – A Peachtree Road(ies) Favorite

It’s no secret that we are fans of Peachtree Road and the vibrant city it serves. It’s also no secret that we spend a lot of time running around the Buckhead portion of P’tree, but that doesn’t mean we are immune to the charms of other sections of that road! For example, Downtown Atlanta. Downtown is a quick 15 minutes from Buckhead and, barring the awful traffic that plagues our city, an easy interstate drive. HOWEVER, I’ve made some significant progress upping my running game, thanks in part to what I’ve been putting on my feet.  One of the biggest barriers I’ve had to being a REAL runner is…running hurts! The 28th Annual party is one of the most revered food events of the year, spotlighting the best of Atlanta’s culinary talent. CRAZY COLD. However, as everyone knows, Southerners have a very tough time handling cold weather so we overcompensate by BLASTING the heat in all enclosed spaces – making getting dressed pretty tough. Dress for winter in the morning and summer in the afternoon. The solution…layering. I think the optimal number of layers is three. One cotton, one wool and outwear. The Great One-Piece Swimsuit Debate

Most of the time women dress for women. Ask most guys what they think about really high-wasted jean shorts, fur vests or hunter boots and they probably just won’t have opinion. I’ve never met a tunic I don’t like – dress length, top, expensive, budget-friendly – I love them ALL! And aren’t they fun as a beach coverup? It’s my favorite way to wear them! I have a soft spot in my heart for a Tory Burch tunic because they fit like… Read More

Simply put, we’ve met some seriously rad people in the past year we would never have run into otherwise (yesterday was our one year blog birthday – bring out the cake and candles!) In fact, we met one of my next door NEIGHBORS at a blog event – hi Nicole! We’ve also received a lot of questions from people looking to launch a blog or just getting started this internet industry. Our… Read More

Livin’ the #BarTacoLife

It’s no secret that Meg and I are OBSESSED with Mexican food. Our Instagram feed is overrun with margarita pictures (#sorryimnotsorry). Many a blog meeting has occurred over margs and queso. And, our best ideas tend to be made under the influence of tequila and lime juice (freshly squeezed please). When new Mexican joint Bartaco opened up in the neighborhood, we just had to check it out for ourselves. Bartaco is traditional Mexican meets taco joint meets cocktail place. There are two types of Mexican restaurants that we frequent – the down-and-dirty, margarita-pitchers-for-$14 type places (think Taxco and Jalisco) and… Read More

It’s Not Supposed to be Easy – Dare to NOT Compare in the Gym

This year I decided to be incredibly original and make (part of) my resolution to be more healthy and active – the bedrock being hitting the gym five times a week. This is a big departure from 2014 where I wore yoga pants five times a week, but did not actually partake in said yoga. Getting back in a more strenuous, committed fitness routine is really tough. I started my #RoadToFitness (restart) Journey back in December, motivated by the opportunity to join in complaining about how ANNOYING Jan 1 starters are. I mean, can you BELIEVE how crowded the gym… Read More

Cali Trip Recap Part II – Visiting Vineyards in Napa and Sonoma

Today I’m sharing Part II of our California/Birthday Trip with you! If you missed Part I be sure to check it out here first. After spending two very full days in San Francisco, we were off to wine country for the rest of the trip! Our first stop in Napa was Auberge du Soleil for an early lunch. This was place was better than I could have imagined – I loved everything about it from the moment we turned off the main highway and made our way up the winding mountain road to the resort. Auberge is a luxury resort… Read More

A Southern Gentleman Emerges in Buckhead

Atlanta is well-known for Southern-style restaurants a-plenty. On many-a-restaurant menu you will find fried chicken, pimento cheese, grits, and deviled eggs in some form or fashion. Buckhead Atlanta’s latest eatery, The Southern Gentleman, is spicing up our typical Southern cuisine, and you haven’t tried these eats anywhere in town – we can promise you that! Executive Chef Randy Lewis hails most recently from the New Orleans restaurant scene, and he infuses the typical Southern staples with a little creole kick. We couldn’t decide on the snacks (they all looked so delicious), so we let our waiter surprise us. He brought… Read More

Celebrating 30 Years in Cali – The San Fran Leg

The minute I turned 29 last year, I was already planning my 30th birthday. All I wanted to do was get out of town for a few days and travel somewhere new. I wanted a place where wine would be a’flowing and the weather would be perfect in late October. California sprang to mind right away!  I’ve only been to California once (and that was to LA for work) and I am so intrigued by the west coast and how much there is to do! We decided to spend four nights total and I didn’t want to try to pack… Read More

Thursday Waylay – Fitness Wins and Failures of 2014

It’s been a fantastic first year, and we’ve covered a lot of ground on our site. When we started blogging one of our biggest goals was to be more active and explore fitness options across Atlanta. In fact, the idea of Peachtree Roadies was hatched one afternoon on a patio, post-workout, over mimosas and chain-restaurant salads. Fitness (and mimosas) are in the blog’s DNA (our personal DNAs maybe not as much) so it’s fitting that we do a quick recap of where we’ve been and where we’re going. Hope you enjoy our look back at 2014! Fitness in 2015 –… Read More
