Top 3 Reasons why the Georgia Aquarium is best date night in Atlanta:
- This is a fantastically relaxed, last minute friendly, no-fuss date.15 minutes of planning is all you need to execute a flawlessly romantic evening (or date day if that’s your thing.) Skip the long lines by buying your tickets in advance online, take an Uber to avoid a tricky parking situation (plus, if you pick the right night *see below* there is going to be wine – so safety first!), and give yourself plenty of time to stroll past 10 million gallons of saltwater tanks complete with whale sharks, manta rays (the only manta rays in a U.S. aquarium), and thousands of other animals. Pro tip: skip the seafood restaurant that night. The guilt isn’t worth it – and you won’t be able to look the fish in the eyes.

- Two words: special occasions.
If you’re booking your dates a year in advance (and come on, who isn’t?) Aqua Vino needs to be on your radar. It’s is my favorite Georgia Aquarium event because it supports their research and conservation efforts – plus you get to rub elbows with chefs and sommeliers from Atlanta’s best restaurants AND more than 500 of your closest aquatic animal friends. This year, proceeds went to support research and conservation for the bottlenose dolphin. So you’re also going to be demonstrating how you care about marine life, which makes you a really good guy or girl. Well done, you. Can’t wait that long? We don’t blame you. Winter is coming…and that’s when Friday nights turn into a jazz celebration (and they set up cocktail stations!) See you there?

Sea monstersthousands of critters give you thousands of conversation starters. If you get the jitters and can’t think of anything clever to say – or need something to look at because your date turns out to be a total weirdo – you’re all set. Try brushing up on some of the more romantic species. I mean, Seahorses are literally the Ryan Gossling of the ocean. Each morning a seahorse couple wakes up, entwines tails, twirls around for a bit and then promenades along the reef floor. Why do they do this? Because they know a thing or two about keeping the love light burning – and this trip around the seagrass is a sign of their fidelity…which naturally lasts for life. Awwwww. Here are the Cliffs Notes on the top three ways Georgia Aquarium is leading research and conservation of bottlenose dolphins. You’re going to need to know this to help impress your date:
Georgia Aquarium oversees the Health and Environmental Risk Assessment (HERA) project designed to assess stressors and threats affecting the health and long-term viability of bottlenose dolphins.
They support the Georgia Dolphin Ecology Program that uses photo identification to track the resident dolphin population in Georgia.
Georgia Aquarium Conservation Field Station participates in a semi-annual photo identification survey that documents resident bottlenose dolphins in northern Florida, enabling researchers to keep detailed records of population numbers and injuries from predators and boat interaction.
Thanks to the Georgia Aquarium for planning our wonderful Aqua Vino date night! We had one of our first dates here and have enjoyed coming back year after year. Cheers to helping our dolphin friends – and to our favorite date night in Downtown Atlanta!
