From sweet tea to pickled fried okra, pulled pork to lighter fare, Buckhead’s Smokebelly’s BBQ is a celebration of all things Southern. Their chef-crafted ‘cue and craft cocktail selection is enough to have anyone squealing with delight. My BBQ lovin’ husband and I were recently invited to check out their new menu, and we’re happier than pigs in mud for three hours while we did our best to conquer that. Basically, we were in hog heaven. Too many pig jokes? Well alright then…On to Buckhead’s best BBQ.
Smokebelly’s menu is the most diverse BBQ menu in Atlanta, which is great because my husband could eat a traditional pork plate everyday of his life and be perfectly happy (no, I’m serious…) – but I crave a little more variety. I’m not asking for tacos at a BBQ joint, but the option of having a really great salad or healthy side is a major plus.
So we started with a couple cocktails, because that’s what we do, and enjoyed the amazing patio for a bit before ordering. Below is a pic of me enjoying the Blackberry Whiskey Smash, which was a sensational mix of bourbon, blackberries, lime, mint and sugar. It was incredible.
Next, we got the Grilled Cheese Bites (American, pepperjack, smoked gouda, YUM) and Smoked Brisket & Sofrito Empanadas with chipotle dipping sauce…because we are on really strict diets, naturally. The snacks were AMAZING. Not too filling, so we keep going…
The jalapeño-Cornbread Cakes with sweet-corn edamame succotash we’re my FAVORITE dish of the night – so incredible and flavorful. Make regular old cornbread seem like sawdust.
For our main courses I got the Quinoa & Mixed Vegetable Salad with BBQ pulled pork and it was one of the very best salads I’ve had in Atlanta. For starters it was HUGE, and I was stuffed when I reached the bottom, but I also loved the mix of quinoa and pulled pork – totally unexpected and totally awesome. Stripes had the 50/50 Burger, a 50/50 blend of ground bacon & brisket/short rib, crispy tobacco onions, pickles, ghost pepper cheese. I stole a bite from his plate every chance I got, which wasn’t many because he LOVED it. We also got the Pig’s Tail Mac-N-Cheese because I never leave a BBQ feast without it.
Did I mention we stayed quite awhile. Yea, this meal was a marathon, not a sprint and we LOVED it. Make plans to visit Smokebelly BBQ soon. You won’t be sorry!
