Well…I’m 30…and so far I’m diggin’ it! I loving life! But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be okay with a couple things changing, including the change I’ve seen in my waistline. While cheese dip and bloody marys at brunch are NOT off the hook for the damage they do, some of us are genetically predisposed to storing fat in certain areas, no matter how we adjust our exercise and eating habits to beat the bulge.
I’m committed to my road to fitness, and know that working out is critical, for my mood and my closet (including that LBD). However, I have no problem exploring shortcuts and boosts along the way…Recent, dramatic advancements in non-surgical procedures have given us a variety of fat blasting options that don’t involve going under the knife, a steep barrier to many of us, including me. Heat, ultrasounds, radio frequency, lasers and freezing methods are all available, but do they work, who do they work for, and are they worth it? These are the questions I set out to answer about the most promising treatment on the market: Coolsculpting.
Coolsculpting works by freezing the fat cells (cryolipolysis) — causing them to die and be eliminated from the body as waste (it’s important to note this can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks.) This approach is quickly taking over the industry because it has fewer side effects than other methods – including the options I listed above. Most importantly, the procedure is FDA-cleared and is targeted for treatment of the stomach, flanks, love handles and back.
The first step for me was finding the best center in Atlanta to explore the procedure. This is important for a couple reasons: the procedure comes with the possibility of bulges, indents and lopsided contouring from a misplaced applicator. Like most cosmetic procedures, once a mistake is made, it’s hard to fix. But don’t let this scare you, all it means is that you need to do your research, and this isn’t a treatment you should intrust to the lowest bidder.
After doing my research I chose Slim Studio in Buckhead, one of the top cosmetic studios in Atlanta and one of the only places that focuses exclusively on Coolsculpting. They also offer DualSculpting to their clients, which gives them the ability to treat two areas simultaneously. For example, rather than a having a CoolSculpting treatment take up two hours of your time to do both sides of your flanks, you can treat both sides at once and be on your way in half the time. They also offer free consolations to help me to determine if I’m a good candidate for Coolsculpting (I was) and took to time to answer all of my questions (I had a lot) and discuss the procedure and the potential results in detail. They never made me feel silly for being nervous, having a million questions and needing to have some information repeated as I processed everything. I felt very comfortable the entire time.
They also were very clear with me about what I could expect, and not expect, with the treatment. Slim Studio experts wanted me to completely understand that this is not weight-loss treatment and should not be grouped into the same category as liposuction. It’s designed to freeze and ultimately eliminate unwanted fat cells permanently and safely – effectively conturing the body. But it’s not going to happen overnight and it’s not a miracle cure for a bad lifestyle. The best candidates for Coolsculpting are active, have a relatively healthy diet and are looking to target certain areas of the body, abdomen, flanks, and inner and outer thighs, that are resistant to exercise and healthy eating habits.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more and more self-conscious about my stomach and how the waistband of my once loose fitting pants have started becoming tighter and tighter. I hate looking at this part of my body in the mirror and not liking what I see. When the opportunity to work with the staff at Slim Studio presented itself I didn’t hesitate to take the chance. I booked an appointment for the following week. Interested in hearing how it went? More to come…

It is, however, based on my years of eating cheese dip and drinking champagne…which is what got me here…Take this review, and the claims made, with a grain of salt on the rim of your margarita.
