Lululemon is on a sensation innovation mission and it’s based on this: from unrestricted and free, to locked-in and supported, the way that you feel in your pants can affect the way that you train in your pants. BOOM <mind blown>
We’ve talked before about how a great looking outfit can make a huge difference in our workouts, but what about a great feeling outfit? Lululemon knows it makes a difference…and I’m a believer!
They’ve introduced new technical fabrics, construction techniques and strategic fits and features to create pants that support us, hold us in and push us forward. My first experience with this new engineering is the held-in line – and the rockin’ cranberry Zone In Crop.
Although I trust the workout wear wunderkinds in Vancouver, I wanted to put these pants to the test. A very specific test involving a beautiful beach, with a wild nor’easter storm (a crazy cyclonic storm that moves along the east coast) and miles of room to run while dodging seagulls and seashells! My kind of test!
Here’s what I found: the Held-in Sensation gave me support and compression in the areas where I need it most – the tummy (high-rise is key for me) and thighs. Other areas that need less support, like my calves and ankles, were much less restricted – the result of an awesome zoned construction. The knit is also seamless, so there is no itching or distracting seams to restrict movement or distract. So to sum things up – my jiggly bits didn’t jiggle and I felt cool and confident during my entire blustery beach run. They also worked really well during brunch later that day when I stuffed myself silly – another plus but probably not the activity these were designed for.
Pro tip: these pants aren’t the easiest to get on, so if you aren’t the type that likes to wiggle around the locker room, keep that in mind. The first time I put these on I looked like beached seal flopping around on the ground trying to squeeze my thighs into sausage casings. Needless to say, it wasn’t a good look. Now I put them on like tights, and it makes the process A LOT easier.
Held-in is just one engineering sensation from this new lululemon approach. There is also Relaxed, Naked, Hugged and Tight. Sounds like I may need a bigger closet…and a raise!
