An elevator pitch for dresses: a fashion no-brainer that can go from casual to fancy faster than pants. That statement is basically impossible to argue with – and one of the reasons why a dress is an absolute must for travel. However, to really take your packing game to the next level you can’t just reach for any ol’ one-piece wonder in your closet. Packable dresses are not all created equal, and if you don’t have one, I’m here to help.
Key components of what makes a dress uber packable: versatile, wrinkle-free, and odor-resistant pieces.
- Versatile: I need to be able to wear the dress for both weekend getaways and work trips. Ideally, I don’t even need to be able to change my shoes – just my bag – and be good to go.
- Wrinkle-free: If you can’t literally stomp on the dress, roll it into a little tiny ball, and trust it to the baggage claim folks on (insert airline here) and look smooth when you slip it on it doesn’t meet my wrinkle-free standards.
- Odor-resistant: I’m not talking about gym clothes here, but it needs to be a fabric that breathes and doesn’t get stinky after wearing it for a full 20 hours. If I’m running around a beach town all day, or stuck in a boardroom guzzling coffee, I need to be confident that my dress is putting in the hours with me. Don’t play coy with me, ladies. You know exactly what I mean.
This Persifor beauty is my new favorite, most packable dress. I’ve worn it everywhere from a friend’s engagement party, to a work meeting to a quick weekend trip away. It has risen to the challenge at each event. This print has super limited sizing – but I’m also absolutely in love with their botanique print and Annanas print – SO GOOD. It has a super flattering a-line silhouette that is more generous in the waist and hip than it looks – which is GOLD. Plus, it hits at a great spot on the knee so it’s appropriate for the office AND the happy hour that follows. Ease abounds: machine wash cold, tumble dry low, 90% Polyamide/10%. Plus, it’s made in the USA (which I love!)
I’ve added several more of my favorite packable dresses below. Bring on the trips, I’m ready to go!
