The holiday season is here – and there are three camps of people: Top 3 Free Self-Care Tips
- Those who brag about the fact that they’ve been listening to Christmas Carols for three weeks already
- Those who post photos of Christmas decor in Costco/Home Depot/Target with the caption #OMG #TOOSOON #NotEvenThanksgiving Top 3 Free Self-Care Tips
- Those who don’t celebrate/care about Christmas but wish the other two camps would stop clogging their social feeds Top 3 Free Self-Care Tips
Regardless of where you land, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season can be a little overwhelming at times. So, we recommend exercising a little extra self care! Below are our 3 favorite ways to show ourselves some L-O-V-E.
Guzzle a glass of water (no really, slam it like it’s the first margarita you’ve had in a month)
I’m not great at drinking water throughout the day. I’ve tried all of the failproof tricks out there (pack a water bottle, add fruit or frizz to make it extra tasty, set an alarm) Nothing works…EXCEPT this. I wake up, grab the largest water glass I can find, fill it with really cold water and bottoms up. I like to be my own life coach in these moments – congratulating myself on being a master of the universe as I chug it. It feels good to knock something off my wellness to-do list first thing.
Throw your headphones in, go for a walk and nail your inner movie monologue.
Narrate tough moments in in a SUPER dramatic way (all in your head, not out loud) by pretending you’re the star in a movie – and it’s time for your introspective walking monologue scene. Example… “Why the heck is Karen from accounting asking me to validate that line in my expense report? Maybe Karen’s boyfriend just admitted he had feelings for Michelle in legal, and she’s taking out her pain on my $13 New York sandwich order- that was TOTALLY WITHIN POLICY, KAREN! It make sense now. I’ll give Karen a break.” It’s YOUR movie – you decide. My background music is always Bittersweet Symphony from Cruel Intentions. So good.
Tuck yourself into bed early with a good book and clean sheets.
Pure. Bliss. I wash my sheets once a week (is that normal? Are you clutching your pearls right now because I should be doing that more often?) but if I’ve had a rough day and I want to pamper myself a bit I’ll throw on a new set of clean sheets mid-week. Then, I’ll allow myself to snuggle into bed with my dog at obscene hours…like 8PM. Read three full chapters, fall asleep in the middle of the fourth and wake up a new woman (or man.)
What self-care activities do you swear by?
